We are a collective of concerned citizens united by a deep concern for the worrying trends permeating higher education today. We have created UniGuard to help restore ethical norms and a commitment to safety and inclusion in higher education. Our professional and academic experiences, including at prestigious Ivy League institutions, have afforded us a firsthand view of the challenges facing American universities.
We are motivated by a shared belief in the indispensable role that higher education plays not only in individual empowerment but also in the advancement of society at large. We are deeply troubled by issues such as declining campus safety, dependence on foreign funding, blatant antisemitism, support for terror, and the erosion of freedom of speech. These trends undermine the foundational principles of academic integrity, free inquiry, and the respectful exchange of ideas.
The events following the October 7 terror attack, particularly the hateful pro-terror demonstrations on campuses and the disgraceful testimony of university presidents before Congress, have been a clarion call for action. They made us realize the urgent need for transparency, accountability, and reform in America’s higher education institutions. The growing disconnect between the values that universities profess and the realities on their campuses demand a response from all who cherish the ideals of education and democratic society.
To respond to these challenges, we created UniGuard to provide an objective, data-driven analysis of universities, focusing on the aforementioned critical issues. Through our work, we aim to inform prospective students, parents, alumni, donors, and the broader public about the state of higher education, empowering them with the knowledge to make informed decisions and advocate for positive change.
